Down Syndrome Association Events

The Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads sponsors events each year to provide opportunities for education, awareness and just plain fun!

Special events are coordinated to promote our association within the community, and raise funds for various programs and services.

First Family Night of 2008!!

Just wanted to say thanks to Mary Whittaker for putting together such a nice family night.  We had a nice tournout with about 8 families (not 100% on that because I was too busy gabbing to count!)  It was great to get together with old friends and make new ones.  And oh my gosh, I could just take all the babies home with me.  I know Mason wanted to! 

We had some really nice door prizes two of which were donated by Van Bourgondien Bulbs.  They donated two large baskets filled with their plants, tons of bulbs, garden gloves, a bulb planter and more!  And guess what?  I won one of the gardening baskets!  Yeah!!  I love to garden, so needless to say, I was thrilled.  The Fords won the other Van Bourgondien basket..  Mary also made up a really cool beach basket, which Georgie won.  They also gave away Buddy Bucks which can be spent at the Buddy Walk for merchandise.  Sorry that I can't remember who won the Buddy Bucks; I was too busy looking inside my basket!  Hee!  Hee!

I'm not sure when our next meeting is, but I promise as soon as I find out, I'll post it here.  So keep your eyes peeled and make a point of attending your next Family Night!  You never know what you might miss if you don't!

Our 7th Annual NDSS Buddy Walk!

The walk begins with registration at 12:00 and the walk at 2:00.  For those of you who register early, you will save time and money.  You will have an express lane this year for check in.  Join us for an afternoon of games, food, clowns, moonwalks and so much more! Music and fun for the whole family! The Buddy Walk is a 1 ½ mile walk around Mt. Trashmore’s lake. Water and snacks will be provided along the way. This year the Buddy Walk Committee will be giving away some nice prizes to the team that raises the most money.  So get out there and start collecting from your co-workers, your neighbors, your family.  This site will soon have a link that will take you to FirstGiving and you can join DSAHR and raise money for your team.  Whether you have Down syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, come and join the Buddy Walk! Exceptional Family Member Program - (EFMP) - Support Group for military families with a special needs family member. Meetings are held every other Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the Endependence Center, 6300 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk. For more information contact LaDene @ 460-1236 or Rene @ 340-1750.
